Artist’s Statement: Poetry and Technology
My favorite subjects are people and nature. I like people “here and now” and admire people with great courage and faith, like the people in the Bible. I love nature, like a blossoming almond tree in the spring, the mysterious ring around the full moon, white butterflies visiting my backyard, and majestic pine trees in the snow. Even pictures of people or nature in magazines inspire me. Encounters with people and nature arouse much feeling and many thoughts within me that I cannot fully express with words, so I create visual images.
For me, creating my work is like painting poetry. I use colors, lines, shapes, and textures to recreate a piece of the world that also belongs to a different realm. I try to instill the essence of an image with life itself. As I finish a work, I can feel its character. It has its own voice and energy. It talks to me in a special way. Then I stop working on it, I respect its presence. It is born.
I draw with a computer mouse. I use the computer as a tool. It is a clean medium, and also environmentally friendly. I put soul and heart into my work even though I use a computer.
I believe that poetry and technology can coexist when I focus on humanity and not on technology itself.
